Quick intro and Adobe AIR fun!
As my first post, I'd like to introduce myself as the newest member of AsFusion! Laura and I have been friends and classmates for years and I'm excited to be joining Nahuel and Laura as they take AsFusion to the next level. I'm not a Flex or CF developer, but I'll be helping them manage their projects and posting regularly to the blog to keep you apprised of all the latest and greatest going on here!
Laura and I just came back from the Adobe free download msn Messager 7.0 english AIR Bus Tour when they stopped in LA. Adobe is promoting their Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR), formerly known as Apollo, which is in Beta right now and the 1st release is expected soon. For those who aren't familiar with messager products it's technology to allow you to deploy rich internet grading of coins icq to the desktop. To give you an idea of the kinds of fun stuff you can do, I shot a clip of a great demo by Lee Brimelow:
It was my first time at an event and it was great to meet Ted Patrick, and so many of you in our community. Which reminds me, we are all signed up and ready for Adobe MAX 2007 in Chicago this October, so we hope to see you there! We have a lot of exciting things planned, so stay tuned!
Adobe cares about developers
Macromedia was well known for being able to reach to the developer community. At the time of the merger, people were afraid that Adobe would not be able to maintain Macromediasess towards developers and users of their products.
I think the opposite happened and we started to see more and more Adobe blogs, public betas and community-reaching activities. I think they might be even morenow than Macromedia was, with things like the Adobe Labs, just to give an example.
We have experienced that first hand, at 360Flex, thanks to Ted (and of course the people from Ebay and Yahoo!) and also by receiving an unexpected gift from Mike Potter on behalf of Adobe, the ActionScript 3 Cookbook by Joe Lott. So thank you both for a great conference and a great gift!

Create a photo slide show with Flex and Picasa
We wrote an article for the Web Developers and Designers Journal that has been published in the November issue titled "Create a Photo Slide Show with Flex 2 and Picasa". It guides you on how to create a simple photo slide show in Flex 2. For this article, we decided not to use ColdFusion to appeal to a broader audience, so it just consumes the XML data produced by Picasa directly.
As usual, the source is available for download and we have a sample you can see live.

Hello World Cairngorm example
A couple of months ago, we posted an updated version of a Hello World Flex example. We have created the same example, but using the Cairngorm framework. It still uses Remoting and ColdFusion. It is simple, but I think that by being so simple, it is easier to follow than a full-fledge application. It shows most of the pieces that make up a Cairngorm application, such as the ModelLocator to store the data and the state of the application, the controller, the command, the services and New Display Pictures for MSN Messenger delegate.
Disclaimer: We do not usually use

so this is only our interpretation of how a Cairngorm app would look like.

cfcUnit Runner released
The more ColdFusion unit tests

needed to run, the more I wanted to have a nice interface where I could only see errors or failing tests, and that it would allow me to selectively run tests. That is why I created cfcUnit Runner, a Flex application to run cfcUnit tests. I believe it could also used to run CFUnit tests, but CFUnit will need to implement a service façade a/v instant messager Flex can use. You can read more in the project's page and use the forums and bug tracker of RiaForge. I have a live demo where you can see it running and I also made a short movie that shows all the features.

IFBIN Flex-ColdFusion example updated
When we submitted our Flex-ColdFusion example to IFBIN, Flex was in an early beta, which means that the example doesn't work with the final release.
All IFIBIN authors have their signature "Hello World" example. Because what it represents us is the integration of Flex and ColdFusion, we decided that our Hello World needed to have ColdFusion in the mix.
I just updated the example and I am posting it here for download. I will submit the update to IFBIN soon. As you will see, it is very simple, as "Hello Worlds" should be. It shows how to use the RemoteObject tag to communicate with ColdFusion, how to deal with the server response and how to make a simple state transition.
